Sir John Warcup Cornforth

Picture of Sir John Warcup CornforthSir John Warcup Cornforth was a chemist who is specifically known for his work with cholesterol for which he won the Nobel Prize.  One of the things that is interesting about Cornforth is that he had his own experiment laboratory at home when he was in school so he was always doing chemistry experiments.  Since his famous discoveries involved narrow topics, his biography can be taught with an emphasis on chemistry experiments rather than on cholesterol or steroids if needed.

TEKS Objective References:

§112.24.b.9.A. (Science 8th Grade) The student knows that substances have chemical and physical properties. The student is expected to demonstrate that substances may react chemically to form new substances.

§112.24.b.10.C. (Science 8th Grade). The student knows that complex interactions occur between matter and energy. The student is expected to identify and demonstrate that loss or gain of heat energy occurs during exothermic and endothermic chemical reactions.

§112.24.b.9.A. (Science 8th Grade) The student knows that substances have chemical and physical properties. The student is expected to demonstrate that substances may react chemically to form new substances.
